Austin Peay State University Athlete of the Week, Tearra Banks

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Freshman center Tearra Banks, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Banks earned averaged 12.0 points and 13.0 rebounds during a week that saw Austin Peay’s women’s basketball team win a fourth straight OVC game for the first time since 2010-11. The 6-3 Banks was 10-for-15 (66.7 percent) from the field on the week, helping the Lady Govs remain in second place in the OVC West Division.

The Louisville, KY native was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field, scoring 13 points and adding 13 rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench against Tennessee Tech, Saturday.

She followed that up 11 points and 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards, in Monday’s loss to Jacksonville State.

For the season, Banks is averaging 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Senior forward Will Triggs, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, shooting 64.7 percent (11-for-17) from the field in two games last week. He notched his season’s first double-double with a 17-point, 13-rebound effort against Tennessee Tech, Saturday.
  • Freshman sprinter Terri Morris, of the track and field team, placed third in the 400m open with a personal-best 57.85 mark, good for sixth in the OVC. She also ran a leg of the Lady Govs 4x400m relay, which placed seventh and ranks first in the conference with a 3:50.81 mark.
  • Junior Aleksas Tverijonas, of the men’s tennis team, defeated Christopher Angulo 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and teamed with Jasmin Ademovic at No. 1 doubles to topple Mate Virag and Pierce Kohls, 6-3, in the Govs’ season-opening win against Northern Kentucky, Friday.
