Austin Peay State University Provost Lecture Series to feature APSU Agriculture professor Rodney Mills on Thursday, January 30th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – An Austin Peay State University animal science professor will present the next session of the Provost Lecture Series this week at APSU.

Dr. Rodney Mills, assistant professor of animal science, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, January 30th, in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. The title of his lecture is “Development of a Sustainable Beef Production System: A Case Study of the APSU Farm and Environmental Education Center.”

He will address the effects of management intensive grazing on animal performance and efficiency, as well as environmental effects such as plant communities, soil parameters and water quality.

All sessions of the Provost Lecture Series are free and open to the public.

Mills is a native of Kentucky who grew up on a commercial beef cattle operation. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in biology from Union College in 1996. After working in the industry for several years, he completed his Master of Science degree in ruminant nutrition from the University of Tennessee.

He then received the Centennial Scholar Fellowship to pursue a Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University. Mills joined the APSU faculty in 2011. His research interests include applied research involving supplemental digestible fiber in grazing beef cattle and functional genomics involving beef cattle diagnosed with bovine respiratory disease.

All sessions are from 3:00pm-4:30pm in the MUC, Room 303.

The Provost Lecture Series seeks to foster a spirit of intellectual and scholarly inquiry among faculty, staff and students. The program will be used as a platform for APSU faculty members who are recent recipients of provost summer grants, who have been awarded faculty development leaves and who have engaged in recent scholarly inquiry during sabbatical leaves.
