APSU Lady Govs put win streak on the line against Tennessee State

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s basketball team (9-14, 6-4 OVC) puts its four-game road win streak at risk when it meets Tennessee State (8-14, 5-4 OVC) in a 5:30pm, Saturday contest at the Gentry Center.

The Lady Govs have won six of their last seven contests, including an 87-74 victory at Southeast Missouri, Monday. Austin Peay downed the Redhawks courtesy an impressive 31-7 run that spanned the final 1:21 of the first half and the first 7:19 of the second half and led to a 23-point advantage it did not relinquish. Sophomore Tiasha Gray’s 26-point outing led the Lady Govs.

Austin Peay enters Saturday’s contest seeking to solidify its position among the league’s top four teams. The Lady Govs (2-1) and UT Martin (5-0) are the only West Division squads to own a winning record in games against the East Division.

Tennessee State is a Jekyll and Hyde squad, owning a 4-1 mark in the Gentry Center this season while holding a 1-3 mark away from home in league play this season. The Lady Tigers have won three straight home games, but lost at Tennessee Tech, 79-75, Monday. Junior forward Chelsea Hudson has posted a double-double in four straight games and is averaging 15 points and 14.6 rebounds over her last six games.

Saturday’s meeting will be the lone regular-season matchup between APSU and TSU. Tennessee State has won the last three meetings in the series, including a 71-52 decision in Clarksville last season.

Tennessee State is 1-1 against the West Division, losing at Eastern Illinois (80-70, Dec. 28) and winning at Southeast Missouri (75-67, Jan. 11th). The Lady Tigers rank third in scoring offense (74.6 ppg) behind UT Martin and Austin Peay.

Junior forward Chelsea Hudson has eight double-doubles this season, five coming in her last six games.

In OVC play, Hudson ranks 4th in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and 13th in scoring (14.9 ppg).

Sophomore guard Brianna Lawrence is averaging 10.9 points per game in league action, including 19 points at Tennessee Tech, Monday.
