Kenwood And Henry County Advance to District 10-AAA Boys Basketball Tournament Championship

Clarksville, TN– The hardwood at Rossview High School was lit up with District 10-AAA Boys Basketball Semifinal action Saturday, February 15th. The Kenwood Knights continued their charge to the Championship game, defeating the Springfield Yellow Jackets 56-32.

In addition, the Henry County Patriots won a nail biter, 43-40, against the West Creek Coyotes to advance to the Championship.

The two teams will face each other Tuesday, February 18th, 7:30pm at Rossview High School for the tournament championship.

The West Creek Coyotes and the Springfield Yellow Jackets will play in the Consolation Game Tuesday, February 18th, 6:00pm at Rossview High School.

Game 1 Kenwood vs. Springfield

The scrappy Springfield Yellow Jacket team matched the top seeded Kenwood Knights score for score early. They held Kenwood’s potent offensive duo, Daniel Norl and Jimario Rivers, to four points in the first half and went into the third period trailing the Knights by only three points, 19-16.

However, the Knights offense exploded for 24 points in the third period. Daniel Norl scored 10 of his second half 17 points in the third period.

The lead changed hands 4 times before the Knights closed the third period with a 14-2 run. The run extended 9 more points in the beginning of the fourth period before Springfield’s Dontez Ellis made a 3-pointer.

It was the last points the Yellow Jackets would score in the game. By then, the Knights had established a 20-point lead.

The Yellow Jackets shot 1-of-8 from the field in the fourth period. They committed 13 turnovers in the second half and were 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

The Knights made 13-of-22 from the field and 7-of-13 from the free throws in the second half.

Daniel Norl led all scorers with 20 points. Matthew Norl scored 12.

Jaylyn Hudson led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points.

Game 2 West Creek vs. Henry County

The Henry County Patriots came from behind to win the game in the fourth period led by the post play of Brandon Donaldson. Donaldson scored 12 points in the fourth period and led all scorers with 29 points.

After shooting 5-of-9 from the field in the third period including three, 3-pointers, the Coyotes led the Patriots 36-29 going into the fourth.
But Donaldson bullied his way to 3 straight baskets in the paint at the beginning of the fourth to cut the lead down to one point, 36-35.

He added two more points to score eight in a Patriots 10-1 run that gave them a 39-37 lead with 2:32 remaining in the game.

The Coyotes regained the lead when Devon Jones made his sixth 3-pointer of the game at the 1:45 mark. But Donaldson was not done.

He scored again to give the Patriots a 41-40 lead with 1:24 left in the game.

The two teams exchanged turnovers as the clock wound down under a minute. As the clock hit 17 seconds West Creek’s Jachin Almon shot and missed a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Donaldson grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled by the Coyotes.

Donaldson made both free throws, extending the lead to 3 points. The Coyotes made two more three-point shot attempts, but failed to tie the game before time ran out.

The Patriots made 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5 free throws in the last period. Donaldson scored 12 of their 14 fourth period points.

The Coyotes made only one shot from the field and one free throw in the fourth period. Jones led the team with 18 points. The normally dynamic Almon scored 15 points, one point in the fourth period.
