APSU Governors Golf gets fifth place tie at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUHilton, SC – The streak is alive…barely.

Austin Peay State University men’s golf team rallied on the final day of the Ninth Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament with a 291 to gain a fifth-place tie in its first 2014 spring tournament. As a result, the Governors golf team now has gained a Top 5 finish in 19 straight tournaments.

Rossview High School’s Janie White signs with Ivy League’s Brown University

 

Rossview High School HawksClarksville, TN – Just a day after winning their first District 10-AAA tournament title, Rossview High School standout Janie White made her future plans official, February 18th, by signing with Ivy League member Brown University to play basketball for the Bears.

White, a 6-foot-3 center/forward, chose Brown over more than 30 schools that had shown interest – including her other final choices Penn, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee and Pepperdine.

Clarksville Police arrest Two for Rony’s Smoke Shop robbery

 

Police Team Work, Detailed Information from Witnesses, and Store Video Helped to Confirm Robbery Culprits

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 at 6:52pm, the Clarksville Police Department responded to a Robbery at Rony’s Smoke Shop on North Second Street.

Police received a silent alarm at the shop in reference to a possible robbery in progress. Officer J. Smith made contact with the store owner (victim 1) and the other victim (victim 2).

They both advised that they had just been held at gun point with a shotgun. Victim 1 stated that the suspect demanded money from the cash register and victim 2 stated that he had $15.00 taken from him.

Shonquiel Fields and Joseph Watkins arrested by Clarksville Police for Robbery.

Two Fort Campbell Falcons Wrestlers Become Regional Champions

 

Fort Campbell SchoolsFort Campbell, KY – For the first time since 2008, the Fort Campbell wrestling Falcons finish regional competition with two regional champions. Ki Ryder and Gino Haywood both took first place in their weight class Saturday, February 15th.

This is the fourth time Ryder has qualified for state competition. He has committed to wrestle at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia.

In addition to the two champions, the Falcons had six state qualifiers including Jake Jorstad who finished as regional runner up.

Summers presented his four-step plan to the Downtown Clarksville Association on Thursday, February 13th.  Small business owners in attendance resonated with Summers’ vision for the downtown district.

APSU Athlete of the Week Ridge Smith

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – After a dynamic first week in a Governors uniform, freshman utility man Ridge Smith, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Smith hit .600 (6-for-10) in his first weekend series against Iowa, smacking four doubles, driving in seven runs and scoring six as the Govs went 1-2 against the visiting Hawkeyes. His .600/1.000/.643 slash-line (average/slugging/on-base percentage) leads the OVC in each category after the first weekend of play.

Tennessee Department of Transportation announces Pedestrian Safety Project in Clarksville

 

Tennessee Department of TransportationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced plans to install signalized crosswalks at five intersections along State Route 12 (Ashland City Highway)/US 41A (Fort Campbell Boulevard).

West Creek Lady Coyotes Win District 10-AAA Tournament Consolation Game.

 

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville High Lady Wildcats mounted a rally to overcome a 16-point deficit in the fourth period, but the rally fell short. The West Creek Lady Coyotes were able to howl in victory after taking down the Lady Wildcats 54-52 in the District 10-AAA Girls Basketball Tournament Consolation game.

The win ranked the Lady Coyotes as the 10-AAA third seed and the Lady Wildcats as the fourth. They will both advance to Regionals, the Lady Wildcats playing the District 9 top seed and the Lady Coyotes playing the third.
