APSU Lady Govs Softball begins four game home stand with Trevecca Trojans

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN Austin Peay State University’s softball team will open a four-game home stand, at 1:00pm, Friday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field with a doubleheader versus Trevecca University.

The doubleheader with the Trojans is just the second home opponent for Austin Peay (4-11) so far in 2014, with the Lady Govs having hosted IUPUI back on February 15th-16th for a three-game series.

Offensively, Austin Peay is led by senior Lauren de Castro (.486, 1 HR, 6 RBI), who is coming off a week where she hit .619 (13-21), with three doubles and five RBI.

Sophomore Mel Pavel is also hitting about .300 on the season, coming into the matchup with a .325 average and a team-best 10 RBI.

In the circle, de Castro top the APSU pitching staff with a 3-4 win-loss mark, with a 5.15 ERA and 18 strikeouts.

Freshman Sidney Hooper (1-2) has the other Lady Govs win, with a 5.32 ERA and 10 strikeouts.

Trevecca (8-3), a NCAA Division II program, has four hitters coming in hitting .333 or better, led by Alex Richardson’s .394 average and team bests in runs (10), home runs (3) and co-leader in RBI’s (8).

Haley Fagan leads the Trojans pitching staff with a 3-1 record and a 3.45 ERA, while Lindsey Stephens and Kelsey Kemp come in with identical 2-1 win-loss records.

Austin Peay will conclude the short four-game home stand on Monday versus Holy Cross University, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00pm.
