APSU Softball travels to Alabama A&M for Wednesday doubleheader

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Despite the snow and ice that has lingered in the Clarksville area, Austin Peay State University’s softball team will look to extend its current winning ways, Wednesday afternoon in Huntsville, AL, as the Lady Govs take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in a doubleheader – starting at 1:00pm.

Austin Peay (6-11) enters the contests coming off a sweep of Trevecca last Friday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field, with a pair of games scheduled on Monday versus Holy Cross being cancelled because of the winter weather.

Alabama A&M comes in with an 8-11 overall win-loss record under first-year head coach Nakeya Hall.

Offensively, Austin Peay is led by senior Lauren de Castro (.476 BA, 1 HR, 6 RBI) and sophomore Mel Pavel (.326 BA, 3 2B, 12 RBI).

Sophomore Niya Sparks and junior Laurel Burroughs also come into the doubleheader having had solid weeks at the plate.

Viridiana Ramos tops the Bulldogs offensive attack, with a .340 average, while Chelsey Ferguson (.333), Raven Grubbs (.327) and Haylee Moran-Rowen (.302) have also started off well for Alabama A&M.

In the circle, de Castro tops the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 4-4 record, including a 4.33 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 43.2 innings of work.

A pair of freshmen, Sidney Hooper (1-2) and Brianna Bartuccio (1-5) also had wins for the Lady Govs this season.

Anisa Britt (4-3) and Cassandra Brown (3-3) have anchored the Alabama A&M pitching staff through its first 19 games.
