Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUJacksonville, FL – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team improved slightly during the final day of the UNF Intercollegiate, but could not move up in the standings as it finished 13th in the event played at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.

The Lady Govs shot a final round 336, Tuesday, to end the three-round tournament with a 1,004 score.

APSU left Florida without an individual round below 80. In fact, sophomore Jessica Cathey owned APSU’s top Tuesday round with an 80, fashioning one birdie, nine pars, seven bogeys and one double to finish in a tie for 43rd at 246.  But she was the only Lady Govs who was able to avoid a large number—every other Lady Gov had at least a triple bogey.

“Big numbers are out nemesis,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We have a lot of work to be done with our short game, work on our chipping and putting and our up and downs.

“I am disappointed in the finish but not worried—these girls will bounce back.”

Freshman Morgan Kauffman owned the Lady Govs second lowest score Tuesday, shooting a final-round 84 for a 250 total. Senior Rachel Deaton fired a final-round 86 to end at 257 while junior Meghan Mueller also shot an 86 to end at 260. Tala Mumford shot a final-round 87 to finish at 255.

Playing as an individual freshman Morgan Gardner came in at 85, Tuesday, to finish at 259 while fellow freshman Amber Bosworth shot a 90 to end with a three-round 267.

APSU’s other freshman, Kelsey Schutt, left Jacksonville, Monday, to head home to her Jackson Township, Ohio, home. Her father, Jeffrey Schutt, died late Monday from injuries suffered in a fall back in November.

“It has been a pretty emotional last few days,” Robson said. “The ladies have had a lot on their minds. We will practice for a couple of days and then head to Ohio (for the memorial service) Friday. We appreciate all the work by the athletic department that has been done so the team can be there.”

The Lady Govs then will head to Sevierville, TN for the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, next Monday and Tuesday.
