Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team returns to action when the Lady Govs open up Ohio Valley Conference play at Jacksonville State 11:00am, Saturday, at the JSU Tennis Complex.
Austin Peay’s efforts have been buoyed by the play of junior Ornella Di Salvo in recent weeks; despite being off last week, the Argentinian earned the first OVC Player of the Week honor awarded in 2014 for her efforts two weeks ago; she picked up wins against Evansville and Lindsey Wilson to run her winning streak to five matches.Overall, the Lady Govs are 3-6 on the year, having won three of their last four to erase the memories of a five-match losing streak to start the season. In addition to Di Salvo’s stellar play, head coach Ross Brown has gotten good performances out of junior Vanessa Tavares (4-5 on the year) and freshman Hannah Tatlock (4-4 in singles and doubles play).
The Gamecocks opened OVC play last weekend, splitting matches against Eastern Kentucky and UT Martin. Overall, Jacksonville State is 5-7 this season after finishing second in the OVC a year ago. Raisa Guasti, a first-team all-OVC choice last season, is 7-5 at No. 1 singles this year.
Austin Peay continues its OVC slate next weekend with a match at Belmont (10:00am, March 22nd) before returning to Clarksville for a contest against Tennessee State (10:00am, March 23rd).
