Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team look to continue a recent hot streak when it hosts Murray State, 1:30pm, Tuesday, in a rare mid-week Ohio Valley Conference tilt.
The Lady Govs earned their first weekend sweep in nearly a year when they knocked off Belmont (4-2) and Tennessee State (4-0) last weekendLed by junior Ornella Di Salvo, who moved to the No. 1 slot at singles prior to the Belmont match, Austin Peay looks for its first three-match win streak since a doubleheader sweep against TSU and a win against Belmont, April 6th-7th, 2013.
The Racers have won five of their last six, including three straight to start the OVC slate against Belmont, Tennessee State and Jacksonville State. Three Racers – Erin Patton and sisters Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova – already have at least eight singles wins, with Patton and Andrea Askauriatza bringing in an 8-2 mark at No. 2 doubles.
Last season, the Racers swept the Lady Govs 7-0 in Murray. Di Salvo and senior Andra Cornea each pushed their opponents to a third set before falling.
The Lady Govs continue their three-match homestand this weekend against Eastern Illinois (March 29th) and on Senior Day against SIU Edwardsville (March 30th).
