Austin Peay Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Trips to Akron, Clemson, Knoxville and Bowling Green highlight the 2014 Austin Peay State University volleyball schedule constructed by head coach Taylor Mott and released, Thursday.
APSU will face host and Atlantic Coast Conference member Clemson, Troy and USC Upstate in its three-match schedule. The first week concludes with a trip to Evansville, September 2nd.
The Lady Govs then make their season’s longest trip with a Week 2 visit to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invitational, September 5th-6th. Matches against Binghamton, Bryant and host Akron await APSU in that weekend’s action.
Austin Peay will take the upcoming week off before a short trip to Bowling Green, KY for the WKU Invitational, September 12th-13th. The Lady Govs will meet host Western Kentucky, Big Ten foe Purdue and Western Michigan in the three-match tournament.
Austin Peay will lift the lid on its home schedule when it hosts Chattanooga, September 16th. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2009 and the first time Chattanooga has traveled to Clarksville since 2000.
The home opener will precede the Lady Govs trip to Knoxville for the UT Invitational, September 18th-20th. After opening the tournament with a match against host Tennessee, Austin Peay will face Montana State, Mercer and Memphis in the three-day, four-match affair.
“The non-conference portion of our schedule is always a tune-up for the challenge of conference play,” said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. “We have a wide range of opponents that should test us during the first half of the season. Our hope is to be playing our best volleyball in time for conference play.””
The 16-match Ohio Valley Conference slate awaits the Lady Govs after the visit to Knoxville, TN. This season’s conference schedule is evenly divided into four-game segments. Austin Peay will host its first four matches, travel for the next four, host the third quartet before traveling for its final four matches.
The 2014 OVC Volleyball Championship will take place November 19th-23rd at the home facility of the regular-season champion. Two weeks later, the 2014 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship begins at the sites of 16 first-round hosts as they begin the trek to Oklahoma City, OK – the site of the 2014 Volleyball Final Four.
Game times for all matches and the schedule for each of the Lady Govs four non-conference tournament will be set at a later date.
