Davis was just off her school-record mark, set last week, with a 24.35 mark, while Ross’ runner-up 24.49 was a personal-best. Freshman Terri Morris was also impressive with a seventh-place, personal-best 25.12 mark.

In triple jump action, a pair of freshmen put up top-five marks. Kaylnn Pitts’ personal-best 12.52m (41’ 1”) mark was good enough for runner-up honors, while Ashleigh Woods wasn’t far behind her with a 12.07m (39’ 7.25”) leap.

“Solid opening for us,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We had lots of personal-bests on the first day. We’re off and running, hope to see the same tomorrow.”

Action continues at the Vanderbilt Track Complex, with a 10:00am Saturday, start time, weather permitting.
