CDE Lightband issues more information on Recent Internet, Phone Outages

Clarksville Department of Electricity - CDE - CDE LightbandClarksville, TN – Giglinx, the wholesale bandwidth provider, for CDE Lightband announced today its findings in the review of the causes of the recent internet and phone outages that affected all CDE Lightband Internet and phone customers on Sunday, March 23rd and again on Thursday, March 27th.

The first outage began around 12:30am on Sunday morning with alerts being sent to CDE Lightband technical personnel. CDE Lightband personnel then reviewed all of their equipment and connections and determined that the issue was not part of their equipment.

They immediately contacted Giglinx staff who began reviewing their own connections and further determined that the outage was caused as part of the point to point fiber connections utilized to deliver the bandwidth.

Once this was determined, Giglinx staff contacted the point to point provider and informed them that the issue was being caused on their end of the connection. Once the fiber problem was identified and a spare fiber connected all services returned to CDE Lightband customers around 5:30pm on Sunday.

CDE Lightband management requested that Giglinx continue to review the issue and its cause to determine what prompted the fiber connection to fail. CDE Lightband was notified earlier this week that the fiber was damaged by a contractor for the point to point provider during system maintenance.

On March 27th, at approximately 12:00 noon customers again experienced an outage of the internet and phone services that lasted about fifteen minutes. This outage was caused again by an issue with the point to point connections with the third party provider.

“CDE Lightband is one of our many valued partners and we are very concerned that the damaged fiber and related maintenance has created losses in customer connectivity for extended periods of time. Giglinx prides itself on delivering the highest quality of services throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and our commitment to CDE Lightband continues to be our top priority”, stated Marcus Mamolen, Giglinx president.

Giglinx and CDE Lightband are continuing the current plan to upgrade the connections for the Clarksville customers to ensure that measures are in place to prevent these types of outages in the future. “CDE Lightband with its current Giglinx connection, will be adding to the architecture an upgraded connection in order to ensure more than adequate bandwidth and redundancy to protect our customers from outages of this nature”, stated Brian Taylor, general manager, CDE Lightband.

“Giglinx is working to provide a stronger, more reliable and redundant connections for CDE Lightband as we are committed to partnering with them to serve their customers. When the upgrade is complete Giglinx will host for CDE Lightband two 10 GigE connections in the Clarksville community,” continued Mr. Mamolen.
