Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for March 30th, 2014

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: the “Spring Eggstravaganza,”  Hershey Track & Field Program, Archery, Coaches Meeting, and Zumba.

Olympic Style Archery

In this class, participants, kids and teens in grades 4-12, are taught a strong foundation in archery in an effort to prepare them for competition. Olympic Style Archery is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5pm, April 7-May 28 at the Kleeman Community Center. The cost is $45/person with a Center ID. Registration is available online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

Coaches Meeting Scheduled

Coaches for the Women’s and Church Youth Softball leagues are invited to attend a brief informational meeting at 6 pm, Monday, April 14 at the Burt-Cobb Community Center.

Registration for these leagues is underway. To ensure your team gets a spot in the league, team deposits of $100 are due Monday, May 5. Final fees are due by May 16 and will be determined by the number of teams registered. Teams may register online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com or at the Parks & Recreation Main Office, located at 102 Public Square.

  • Church Youth Softball League play will begin June 10. Games are played on Tuesday nights.
  • Women’s Softball League play will begin June 12. Games are played on Thursday nights.

All leagues will play at the Heritage Park Softball Complex.


Come dance away the pounds with this popular, upbeat class. Enjoy your workout while dancing to great music that will make you forget you are even working out. Zumba is open to ages 18 and up and is offered at the Burt-Cobb Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm. The cost is $3/class with a Center ID.

Spring Eggstravaganza

Join the Parks & Recreation department at this year’s Spring Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 19 from 1-4pm at the Heritage Park Ballfields. Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of games, face painting, inflatables, and the hunting of over 20,000 eggs! Egg hunts are open to kids, ages 3-10 only, but activities are open to all ages! The Easter Bunny will be making an appearance, so parents don’t forget your cameras! For more information on age group hunt times visit www.cityofclarksville.com/springeggstravaganza

Hershey Track & Field Program

Young athletes will be able to showcase their talents by participating in track, long jump, and softball throw in the 2014 Hershey Track & Field competition. This program is open to boys and girls ages 9-14 in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area. Practices for the competition will begin April 3, and will be held every Thursday from 4:30-5:30pm at the Burt-Cobb Community Center. Practices will continue through May 8. Practice attendance is not mandatory to compete at the local competition.

The local competition will be held at 9am on May 10 at the Rossview High School Track. Athletes who place first in the local competition will be able to advance to the district competition, and compete there for a place in the statewide competition.
