APSU Lady Govs Softball at Memphis Tigers Wednesday

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball will travel west to the Bluff City, April 2nd, to face in-state foe University of Memphis in a 4:00pm doubleheader at the Tigers Softball Complex.

It will be the first time in seven years that Austin Peay (16-16) and Memphis (13-20) have met on the softball diamond, with the all-time series record even at 2-2.

The doubleheader versus Memphis is also the final non-Ohio Valley Conference road games of the 2014 season for Austin Peay.

After 32 games this season, the Lady Govs are led offensively by senior Lauren de Castro – who enters the twinbill hitting an even .400 on the season, including seven doubles and five home runs. She also leads the team with 21 RBIs.

Senior Kayla Davidson has also come on as of late, raising her season’s batting average to .281, with eight doubles, a triple and three home runs. She has driven in 19.

Sophomore Marissa Lake has also been on a tear since coming off an injury that cost her the first 23 games of the season, hitting .379 over her nine games played so far this season, including scoring 13 runs in those nine games.

Fifth-year senior Kristin Whitmire is another hot hitter for the Lady Govs, going 5-for-9 last weekend versus Southeast Missouri – including a pair of doubles and three RBI.

Memphis is led by Lindsay Crowdus’ .369 batting average, which includes three doubles and seven triples. She also leads the team with 18 runs scored.

Brittany Vaughn is the only other Tiger batting over .300 this season, coming in at .322 – with nine doubles and a home runs, as well as a team-high 19 RBI.

In the circle, de Castro leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 11-6 win-loss mark, including a 3.17 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 95 innings of work.

Freshmen Sidney Hooper (3-3, 4.79 ERA) and Brianna Bartuccio (2-7, 6.28 ERA) have the other Austin Peay wins this season.

Ellen Roberts tops the Tigers pitchers with a 7-11 record and a 2.73 ERA, with 87 strikeouts in 110.1 innings pitched so far this season.
