Moving to 5-2 in the OVC (10-5 overall), Austin Peay put some distance between itself and Morehead State, who drops to .500 in conference play at 3-3 (7-6 overall).

The win helps keep Jacksonville State in the Govs sights as well; the Gamecocks defeated Tennessee State to keep their hold on the No. 2 seed in the OVC at 5-1 in conference play.

As they often have during head coach Ross Brown’s tenure, the Govs secured the doubles point to give themselves an early advantage. Senior Jasmin Ademovic and junior Aleksas Tverijonas defeated Ji Hoon Heo and Jack Swindells (8-4), while juniors Iago Seffrin and Dimitar Ristovski knocked off David Clifford and Nick Mercer (8-5).

Although Ristovski and freshman James Mitchell fell in lengthy three-set battles, the rest of the Govs singles lineup exited Saturday’s action with a victory. In a match-up of high-caliber No. 1 players, Ademovic emerged victorious with a 6-1, 7-5 decision against Swindells.

The two most consistent pieces in the Govs recent success continued that trend Saturday. Tverijonas defeated Heo 6-4, 6-4 for his 14th win of the year, while Seffrin won his sixth straight with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Mercer.

Freshman Manuel Montenegro also grabbed a win Saturday, defeating Gabriel Ruiz 6-4, 7-6 at the No. 6 slot.

The Govs continue their Kentucky road trip with a 1:30pm, Sunday battle at Eastern Kentucky in Richmond.
