APSU’s Iago Seffrin claims OVC Player of the Week honors

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis player Iago Seffrin has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The junior has been on a tear recently, winning seven straight singles matches since March 22nd. The run culminates in the first career weekly OVC honor for the Sao Paulo, Brazil native.

Seffrin and the Govs went on the road for a pair of wins last weekend. He defeated Morehead State’s Nick Mercer (6-0, 6-1) and Eastern Kentucky’s Sebastian Mueller (6-4, 6-4) at No. 4 singles.

His victory against Mueller clinched the win for Austin Peay and served as Seffrin’s first career victory against an Eastern Kentucky athlete.

Seffrin and his doubles partner, junior Dimitar Ristovski, have cruised recently, posting a 12-2 record primarily at No. 2 doubles this season. The duo has won three straight and eight of their last 10 matches after defeating Morehead State (8-5) and Eastern Kentucky (8-4) over the weekend.

He becomes the second Austin Peay men’s tennis player to earn weekly recognition from the OVC this season, after Jasmin Ademovic shared the March 18th honor.

Seffrin and the Govs close out the regular season with a pair of matches this week, ending conference play against Murray State 2:00pm, Thursday, in Clarksville, TN. Austin Peay concludes the regular season with a visit to 35th-ranked Louisville 3:00pm, Sunday.
