Austin Peay State University Softball hosts Middle Tennessee Blue Radiers Wednesday

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will step out of Ohio Valley Conference play for the final time in 2014, at 1:00pm Wednesday at Cheryl Holt Field, as they host Middle Tennessee for a single game matchup.

It will be the 48th meeting on the softball field between the two programs, but the first time since April 17th, 2009 that the Blue Raiders have made a trip to Clarksville.

Offensively the Lady Govs (17-21, 6-7 OVC) are led by senior Lauren de Castro, who enters the contest hitting at a .412 clip – including nine doubles, five home runs and a team-best 24 runs driven in.

Mel PavelSophomore Mel Pavel has also had a solid season at the plate through the first 38 games of the season, batting .229, with six doubles a home run and 19 RBI.

Senior Kayla Davidson has raised her average to .276 this season after a slow start, with nine doubles, a triple and three home runs. She has driven in 20.

Middle Tennessee (7-32, 2-12 C-USA) is led by Laura Dukes .394 batting average, including 15 doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI.

Kayla Toney is the only other MTSU player over .300, as she enters the game hitting .333, with eight doubles and a team-best seven home runs and 29 RBI.

Sidney HooperIn the circle, de Castro leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 11-6 win-loss record and a 3.47 ERA. She has also struck out 79 and 109 inning of work so far this season.

Freshmen Sidney Hooper (3-5, 5.83 ERA) and Brianna Bartuccio (2-7, 6.30 ERA) have the other APSU wins this season.

Jordyn Fisherback tops the Blue Raiders staff with a 3-11 record, including a 4.32 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched this season.
