Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds allowed a season-high nine runs in Tuesday morning’s contest against the New Orleans Zephyrs, falling by a final score of 9-4 on Education Day at Greer Stadium.
Down 1-0 in the third inning, Sounds starting pitcher Ariel Pena (0-2) had difficulty locating pitches, with three walks and two wild pitches in the frame alone. The free bases ended up hurting Nashville when New Orleans catcher Kyle Skipworth drove a wind-aided grand slam over the centerfield wall.
Clarksville, TN – The last day of the 2014 Rivers and Spires Festival continued to be the best in memory. The weather was absolutely flawless, neither too hot nor to cold. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky throughout the entire day.
I rushed down to the Festival at 9:00am to catch the annual WJZM 1400 AM Clarksville in Review broadcast from the Festival. This usually is held at the Bill Roberts thunder road automotive tent on Franklin Street just down from the Roxy Regional Theatre. The program was already well underway when I arrived.

His 8-under par 136 (68-68) after two rounds placed him a shot ahead of Jacksonville State’s Camilo Aguado, Saturday, and gave him the championship when rain halted the event for good after six holes on Sunday.

Clarksville, TN – March home sales figures were disappointing and while the numbers are normally choppy, suggested that there may be something more to the slowdown in housing than bad weather (mortgage rates are higher than a year ago, while prices have risen significantly over the last three years).
Next week, it’s a very busy calendar, with fresh figures for April. Consumer confidence is expected to pick up. Real GDP growth is likely to be relatively soft (0.4% to +1.4%), with a weather-related restraint on consumer spending and homebuilding, drags from slower inventory growth and a wider trade deficit, and a rebound in government (following the drag from the shutdown in 4Q13).
