APSU pole vaulter Molly Basch named Academic All-District by Capital One

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN –  For the second year in a row, Austin Peay State University pole vaulter Molly Basch has earned Capital One Academic All-District III honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for women’s track and field/cross country.

Basch graduated earlier this May with a degree in psychology after earning a perfect 4.0 grade-point average during her collegiate career.

Basch’s academic exploits earned her a share of Austin Peay’s Female Scholar-Athlete Award, her second straight, and the Governors Club Academic Achievement Award at April’s Athletic Awards Banquet, along with the track and field Scholar-Athlete honor, her second in as many years.

Basch also earned the Governors Club Academic Achievement Scholarship following her junior year.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native is the first multi-time Academic All-District honoree from the Austin Peay track and field program since another Lady Govs pole vaulter, Carrie Burggraf, was a three-time honoree from 2008-10.

Molly BaschIn her final season in an Austin Peay uniform, Basch set personal-bests in both indoor (3.22m) and outdoor (3.53m) pole vault. She won the Battle of the Cumberland, April 22nd, and earned points at both the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor (eighth) and Outdoor (fifth) Championships.

Basch’s name now will move to the national ballot to be considered for Academic All-America. CoSIDA began the Academic All-America program in the 1950s and has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across the country in all divisions. Capital One became official sponsor of the program in January 2011.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).

No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
