Hopkinsville, KY – Flag Day, June, 14th, 2014 would not have been the same in Hopkinsville, KY without the stirring concert performed by The Cumberland Winds Concert Band, directed by Mike Ritter.
Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the annual American Dream Celebration featured a rousing patriotic concert by the famed orchestra from Clarksville, TN.
Following the performance, Tim McCarley, Scoutmaster for Troop 123, representing Saint Johns United Methodist Church in Hopkinsville, gave a very informative briefing on flag etiquette.
Troop 123, with the assistance of Clarksville’s Scout Troop 1875, representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, presented unserviceable flags to Scoutmaster McCarley to be properly retired at the upcoming American Flag Retirement Ceremony sponsored by Troop 123.
This event will be held at the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park in Hopkinsville at 10:00am on Thursday, July 3rd, 2014. The public is invited to attend and bring flags that need retiring anytime between 10:00am and 4:00pm that day.
Steve Gertonson, COL, U.S. Army (Ret) of Clarksville, motivated guests to be informed and actively involved in the protection and preservation of our American freedoms, especially religious liberty, a fundamental human right to think, believe, express and act upon what one deeply believes according to the dictates of his or her moral conscience. Col. Gertonson impressed upon everyone that this freedom applies to those who adhere to religious beliefs and those who do not.
A social hour with refreshments concluded the evening.
