Clarksville, TN – More than 280 golfers participated in the 27th Annual Governors Golf Classic, held Friday, at Swan Lake Golf Course and the Clarksville Country Club.
It was the largest Govs Classic since it was initiated in 1987 and believed to be the largest tournament of its kind as far as participants in Clarksville history as 34 teams played at Swan Lake and the 36 at the Country Club.At the Country Club, the men’s team of Haskell Fink-Joel Mangrum-Brian Alexander-Curtis Copeland finished first with a 47 (25 under) followed by Brian Balthrop-John Brannen-Tyler Phillips-Peyton Williams at 48, winning in a scorecard playoff over the quartet of Kyle Luther-Tom Creech-Ben Moore-Eric Hawkins.
On the women’s side, the team of Angela West-Vickie Stanfill-Cindy Dahlgren-Martha Choat with a 54, followed by Cindy Taylor-Gena Deere-Christy Glaser-Tonya Wells, one shot back, with Jan Watson-Paulette Lynch-Andrea Dunford-Missy Donaldson in third at 58, 16 under par.
The Country Club straightest drive went to Linda Lafferty while the closest to the hole for the men was David Graham, the Senior Men Ron Crisp while the ladies victor was Tonya Wells.
Meanwhile, at Swan Lake the teams of Terry Griffin- Kirk Kayden-Kenny Loftus-Dave Normand, Todd Stansell-Mike Foley-Keith Bennett-Greg Carter and Tom Perry-Bob Perry-Danny Jordan-Ron Sleigh all tied for first at minus-20, but Griffin-Kayden-Loftus-Normand winning in a scorecard playoff with the other two taking second and third, respectively.
Red Roberts won the straightest drive at Swan Lake while closest to the pin went to Larry Nicholson at No. 17, Ben Buchanan at No. 10 while Sean Riley was the senior winner.
