Nashville’s Sean Halton Goes 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs; Matt Clark Drives In Four

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – The first-place Nashville Sounds (48-43) picked up their third straight series win by offing the Round Rock Express in Sunday night’s series finale, 10-6.

The Sounds jumped out to an early 3-0 lead courtesy of newcomer Matt Clark, who drove a three-run two-out double over right fielder Engel Beltre’s head to mark his first hit with the club.

Clark’s at-bat was preceded by an infield error to put Eugenio Velez on first, a two-out walk to Jeremy Hermida, and a fielding miscue that allowed Sean Halton to reach base on an infield single with no one covering first base. Clark finished with three hits and four RBIs.

Halton, 4-for-5, added to Nashville’s lead with his single in the 3rd inning which scored Jason Rogers, who reached base on balls. Catcher Shawn Zarraga, 2-for-3, made it a 5-0 game with his bases-loaded sacrifice fly.

Shortstop Hector Gomez, 3-for-5, hit a double in the 4th inning to extend his season-best hit streak to six games. He currently holds the team’s longest active streak. Gomez came around to score on a single from Halton for a six-run advantage.

Gomez hit his second double of the game in the 7th inning to plate Nashville’s seventh run. Then in the 8th, the Sounds scored three with consecutive RBI singles from Halton, Clark and Zarraga.

Nashville has now scored five runs or more in 10 of its last 11 victories.

Sounds starting pitcher Ariel Pena (5-6) turned in six innings for Nashville, firing a season-high 10 strikeouts en route to his fifth win of the year. Pena ran into trouble in the 4th inning, during which four runs came across, including a two-base run-scoring wild pitch.

Reliever Arcenio Leon delivered a scoreless 7th inning for Nashville, before Round Rock plated a pair of runs in the 8th up against Brent Leach, who loaded the bases to open the frame.

Jose De La Torre stepped in to offer a bases-loaded walk and then a one-out sacrifice fly. Jeremy Jeffress closed out the 8th and 9th innings to pick up his second save.

The Sounds will continue their road trip in Memphis on Monday against the Redbirds (AAA-Arizona Cardinals) at 7:05pm CT. RHP Jimmy Nelson (10-2, 1.56) will take the hill for Nashville opposite Memphis’ LHP Tyler Lyons (2-1, 5.35). Broadcaster Jeff Hem has the call on 102.5 The Game.
