APSU named “Great College to Work For” for Third Straight Year

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For the third consecutive year, Austin Peay State University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. In addition, APSU was the only public university in Tennessee to make the list.

The results were released today in The Chronicle’s seventh annual report on The Academic Workplace.

Austin Peay State University named “Great College to Work For” in 2014.

“It is a privilege to work with a campus community that has been again named one of the ‘Great Colleges to Work For,’” APSU President Alisa White said.

In all, only 92 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with APSU included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students.

APSU won honors in nine of 12 categories this year:

  • Collaborative Governance
  • Confidence in Senior Leadership
  • Diversity
  • Facilities, Workspace and Security
  • Professional/Career-Development Programs
  • Respect and Appreciation
  • Supervisor or Department Chair Relationship
  • Teaching Environment
  • Tenure Clarity and Process

Because APSU was recognized in several categories, APSU received Honor Roll recognition.

The results are based on a survey of all employees at APSU. To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.

“It’s easier to be a great workplace during good times, but it’s when times are tough that the commitment to workplace quality really gets tested,” Richard K. Boyer, principal and managing partner with ModernThink LLC, said. “And those institutions that measure up during times of economic hardship reinforce their already strong cultures and put even more distance between them and their peer institutions for whom they compete for talent.”

Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.
