Karns, South Nashville reach finals of winner’s bracket at 12-year old Little League State Tournament

Little League BaseballClarksville, TN – Karns continues to flex its muscles while defending state champion South Nashville had a little bit of a scare, July 21st at Griff Schmittou Field in their 12-year old Little League State Tournament winner’s bracket semifinals, but both advanced; with Karns blasting Obion County 26-0 and South Nashville slipping by Tullahoma, 3-1.

In Game 1, Tullahoma jumped out in front of the defending state champs on a solo homer by Bailey Miller off South Nashville starter Drew Byers.

But South Nashville got a big two-run homer from Sam Slaughter in the bottom of the third inning to take its first lead of the game.

Slaughter was the only player from either team to record more than one hit in the contest, finishing the game going 2-for-3 at the plate.

That would be all that Byers and relievers Robert Hassell and Blake Money would need, as they shutout the Tullahoma offense – limiting they to a lone base runner on a walk over the final three innings.

In the other winner’s bracket game, any question about the outcome disappeared after one inning of play, as Karns scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back scoring nine more runs in the second inning and seven in the third for their 26-run total.

Obion County, on the other hand, only managed one base runner all night – a fourth-inning single by Reed Logan, to break-up the no-hitter.

Six different Karns players had multiple-hit efforts, led by Mikey Lowe’s 4-for-4 day, while Jake Whiloit and Brad Grenkowski had three hits each and Cameron Fisher, Johnathon Nelson and Lukas Cook all had two hits each.

Fisher also finished with six RBIs, while Nelson drove in five.

All four teams are still alive in the tournament.

Karns and South Nashville will meet in the winner’s bracket finals, July 23rd at 6:00pm, while Tullahoma will face Clarksville National, on July 22nd at 6:00pm and Obion County faces Johnson City on July 22nd at 8:00pm.

Both games on July 22nd are elimination games.
