Clarksville, TN – David Edmondson posted an opening-round of two-under 69, August 2nd at Swan Lake Golf Course, to lead the Senior Clarksville City Amateur by a stroke.
Edmondson was two-under at the turn, with three birdies and one bogey, and played the backside at even par – including a birdie on the 18th hole to hold the one-stroke lead.
“I got a lot of break today, but I felt pretty good about everything,” Edmondson said. “I only missed two greens and made a lot of putts.
Trios of golfers – Bill Wilkinson, Brad Van Kirk and Mike Welker – are a shot back after carding one-under 70’s.
“You had to be careful out there today,” Wilkinson said. “You couldn’t be moving the ball very fast when you had it going past the hole, or it would disappear down the green, because they (the greens) were very fast.
“Today was just one of those days where everything comes together and things go pretty smooth, you hit some pretty solid shots and scramble a little bit when you have too.”
Four golfers shot even-round 71s, including two-time defending champion Joey Long, and sit two shots back of the leader.
“I’m pleased with a round of 71 today with where the pins were,” Long said. “Who had about six that were very tough, six that were in fairly good placements and six that were little bit closer to tough than easy.
“I just hope the 71 is in the top eight scores for the day. I’ve had the trophy for a couple of years now and it’s kind of become part of the family. I hope I can hang on to it for a little while longer.”
Bruce Walker and Harold Hensley follow at one-over par 72, three shots back, while three other golfers are four shots off the pace with 18 holes to play.
Final-round tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:00am, with the final group teeing off at 10:30am.
