Lexington, KY – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team was one of a record 134 Division I women’s volleyball programs to receive the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Awards, Monday.
Teams are recognized by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. It is the fourth time since 2000 an Austin Peay volleyball team has been recognized, joining the 2001-02, 2003-04 and 2013-14 squads.
“I am proud of the excellent work my team did in the classroom again last season,” said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. “I want to thank Sonya Bain and her staff in Academic Services for their help as well as the faculty at Austin Peay for their dedication to student success in the classroom. This award is the recognition of our combined effort to promote student-athlete success at Austin Peay.”
Last week 10 Austin Peay volleyball players were recognized on the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll – maintaining a 3.25 grade-point average for the entire 2013-14 academic year: April Adams, Cami Fields, Lauren Henderson, Calyn Hull, Elizabeth Landon, Syd Litchfield, Aubrey Marsellis, Hillary Plybon, Jada Stotts and Samantha Strother.
In addition, the Lady Govs posted a 3.52 grade-point average during the Spring 2014 semester, the highest GPA by a women’s team. That followed a Fall 2013 semester that saw the team post a 3.44 GPA – second best among women’s programs.
