Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation Hosts 4th Annual Dog People Party

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with Alicia’s Complete Holistic Petcare, and Gateway Realty/A+ Property Management hosted the 4th annual Doggie Pool Party at the Swan Lake Pool on Saturday.

The event part of the Fun with Fido program which seeks to give pet owners fun activities they can take part in with their pets.

“We hold this event as a way for pets to beat the heat in August we allow them to come to Swan Lake Pool; jump in, and have fun! And hopefully win some prizes in the process,”  said Paula Harrington, an events specialist with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation. “This event is held the week after the polls closed for the season, the reason for this is to let the chlorine leach out of the water so that it doesn’t irritate the dogs skin and coats. As our way of closing out the pool season.”

Owners and their dogs congregated around the pool on the hot Saturday afternoon. Some owners waded with their dogs in the kiddie pool while others tossed balls in the big pool for their dogs to fetch. Smiles were on every face, even the doggie ones.

While I was there they did the longest jump competition large breeds and then small breeds competed to see who could jump the farthest as they chased a ball into the pool. A summer shower hit and cut short the festivities before they could have the other competitions that were planned for the afternoon.

Harrington made sure to thank the people who on hand making the event possible, “We want to thank our vendors who come out and make this event happen every single year. Alicia’s Complete Holistic Pet Care is our presenting sponsor, and we’re very glad to have her here!”

“The Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation also had a booth presenting information about the programs and events. Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County, Heavenly Paws Grooming, Better Behavior through Understanding with Alaine, Willy’s Happy Endings was able to come out today, and we were really excited because we knew they had some other events to do earlier in the day,” stated Harrington.

She concluded, “We also would like to thank all of the people come out and participate! Everyone that owns a dog and loves a dog just as much as we do! Be sure to stay active with your dog all year long, take them with you as you visit Clarksville’s many parks! We have the Clarksville Greenway, which is a great place to go with your four-legged friends! As well as McGregor Park, Heritage Park, and Liberty Park; go out with your dogs, and let them have fun too!”
