Tennessee State Representative John Tidwell Seeks Re-election to the 74th House District

Election 2014New Johnsonville, TN – Tennessee State Representative John Tidwell is announcing his re-election bid as the Democratic nominee for State House District 74, covering Humphreys, Houston and the western part of Montgomery County.

“We were able to accomplish some great things this year, but we still have a long way to go help working families in Tennessee,” said Rep. Tidwell. “I hope to return next year and continue to find more ways to improve the lives of veterans, provide jobs for hard-working families, and ensure that all families have access to high-quality health care.”

During the 108th General Assembly, Rep. Tidwell, was appointed by the Speaker and played the key role in brokering a deal between the House and Senate that would reduce the availability of meth precursors to meth producers, while still protecting the rights of legitimate patients and allergy sufferers (HB1574).

Rep. Tidwell has also worked hard to help veterans in Tennessee. He co-sponsored the “Tennessee Veterans Education Transition Support Act” (HB1372) in order to give in-state tuition to all veterans and create support programs to ensure they graduate on time.

Additionally, he co-sponsored HB422 to ensure that veterans re-locating to Tennessee will have their professional license honored in our state. Passed the Domestic Violence Order of Protection bill. Increased the speed limit on Dover Road.

John Tidwell was born to two school teachers, his mother a math teacher and father a science and agriculture teacher. After graduating from Castle Heights Military Academy located in Lebanon, Tennessee, Rep. Tidwell attended the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, were he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.

Rep. Tidwell lives in New Johnsonville with his wife, Charlotte. Together they have two children, John who is a Jr. High School Principal and Nikki, a Registered Nurse. John’s wife Christy is a teacher and they have two beautiful children, Cassie and Trey. All of the Tidwell family are members of the First United Methodist Church.
