Ward 2 Clarksville City Councilman Deanna McLaughlin seeks re-election

Election 2014Clarksville, TN – Ward 2 Clarksville City Councilman Deanna McLaughlin officially launched her campaign for re-election after qualifying for re-election on May 28th.

McLaughlin has represented Ward 2 on the Clarksville City Council since 2007 and was re-elected to a second term in 2010. Ward 2 was redistricted in 2011 and now extends to neighborhoods to the east and west of Fort Campbell Boulevard (US 41A), neighborhoods between Saratoga and Hillsboro roads and between Cunningham Lane and Dover Road (US 79).

Among her many accomplishments while serving on the City Council, McLaughlin successfully lobbied the Tennessee Department of Transportation for a number of significant improvements along Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Among these are five signalized crosswalks along Fort Campbell Boulevard and Providence Boulevard, sidewalks from Quin Lane to Cunningham Lane and Walnut Street toward Providence Boulevard, and funding for 41 new bus shelters to be located along Fort Campbell Boulevard and Providence Boulevard.

Councilman McLaughlin’s city council ordinance to ban synthetic drugs inspired the state law banning the same substances.

McLaughlin has been noted for her responsiveness to the concerns of Ward 2 residents. She conducts monthly town hall meetings to discuss items that will be voted on by the Clarksville City Council and address concerns of Ward 2 residents. She is among the most active Council members in keeping residents informed via email distribution and Facebook.

In 2011, Councilman McLaughlin was appointed by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to serve at the Tennessee Commissioner to the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission.

She is also very active in the Clarksville community, serving as a member of the Association of the United States Army, Austin Peay State University Gov’s Club, Clarksville Young Professionals and Combat Veterans Military Motorcycle Association.

Additionally, McLaughlin serves as a Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake Team Captain, Girl Scout Gold Project Mentor, Patriot Guard Riders Ride Captain, Organizer of the Patriots Park Flags for the Fallen, Northwest High School Lady Vikings Basketball Booster Club Treasurer, and 9/11 Days of Caring and Service Volunteer/Project Organizer. She is a graduate of Leadership Clarksville.

McLaughlin has been recognized for her involvement with numerous community service awards and recognitions, including the Department of the Army Award for Public Service and Award for Patriotic Civilian Service, Belk Award of Excellence, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Supporter Recognition, and the Key to the City of Clarksville.

Deanna McLaughlin was born to a teacher and a police officer, in Portland, OR. After graduating from Evergreen High School and attending Clark College located in Vancouver, WA, she married David McLaughlin who was a soldier in the United States Army.

In 1993 the McLaughlin’s were reassigned to Fort Campbell and have resided in Clarksville ever since. Councilman McLaughlin lives in north Clarksville with her husband David and their daughter Kaitlan.

Even though she is unopposed in the City Council Ward 2 Election, McLaughlin will continue to go door to door to speak with the registered voters in the ward. To date, Councilman McLaughlin has been on the doorsteps of over 1,100 registered voters in Ward 2.

She enjoys speaking with the people that she represents and learning about their concerns for Ward 2 and the city.
