The Governors claimed eighth place in the five-kilometer race, scoring 233 points, putting them ahead of Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee State (271).

Purdue won the event with a score of 25 points, after a lengthy delay due to timing issues, and were followed by host Belmont (52) and Western Kentucky (73).

The Govs were led by sophomore Daniel Hamm who crossed the finish line with a time of 16:48.09 to finish in 54th place. The next two across the line for the Govs were Alex Haycraft (17:12.45, 60th) and Kyle Harmon (17:19.58, 62nd).

Rounding out the scoring five for Austin Peay were sophomore Hunter Guthrie (18:10.91, 72nd) and freshman Nick Piskor (18:47.63, 79th). Also competing for the Govs were freshman Mickey Fils (19:11.95, 81st) and sophomore Thomas Owen (19:39.11, 82nd).

“The guys are going to learn how to work together and run as a pack,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “That concept got away from us a little bit in the second half of the race. This was a really good meet with good teams like Purdue, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. It was a quality test and we will improve as the season goes on.”

The Govs will return to the course next week at Chattanooga’s Powerade Invitational at Moccasin Bend. Starting time is scheduled for 4:45pm (CT).
