Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team looks to rebound from a rough start when they return to action in this week’s meet at Chattanooga.
The Lady Govs continue their 2014 campaign with the Powerade Invitational at 4:45pm (CT), Friday at Moccasin Bend Race Course.
“We’ve traveled down to Chattanooga several times over the last few years,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “It is a very good course and this meet features some good competition.”The Lady Govs opened their season last week in the Belmont Opener in Nashville, finishing in 11th place and were led by sophomore Molly Jordan (65th), junior Alexis Eldridge (76th) and freshman Becca Wheeler (78th). Rounding out the scoring five were senior Jessica Gray (82nd) and freshman Sara-Emily Woodward (83rd).
This week’s event will feature Ohio Valley Conference rivals Jacksonville State and UT Martin in addition to teams from Alabama State, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee and Tennessee alongside host, Chattanooga, at the Division I level.
“Meets like this are an excellent stepping stone,” said Molnar. “They give us a chance to see conference opponents like Jacksonville State and UT Martin in a smaller setting, and that will allow us to see exactly where we are.”
The Lady Govs will have a week off before it hosts the APSU Invitational. The race will be held at 5:00pm September 19th, at the Family Life Center Cross Country Course.
