Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Tennis starts season at Skyhawk Tennis Fall Invitational

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team kicks off the 2014 fall campaign when it travels to the Skyhawk Tennis Fall Invitational, hosted by UT Martin, Friday, at the Skyhawk Tennis Complex.

The tournament will feature Ohio Valley Conference rivals UT Martin and Southeast Missouri along with North Alabama.

The Lady Govs will open the tournament at 4:00pm, Friday, with singles matches against the host Skyhawks, followed immediately by doubles matches against North Alabama. The Lady Govs will close out Friday playing UTM in doubles matches at 8:00pm.

The tournament will continue Saturday when the Lady Govs play SEMO in 10 a.m. singles matches. At 2:00pm the Lady Govs will play North Alabama in singles before closing out the tournament with doubles matches against SEMO at 4:00pm.

The Lady Govs will be led by seniors Ornella Di Salvo, Vanessa Tavares and Jovana Karac.  Di Salvo, who was named second team OVC all-conference last spring, went 9-10 in singles and 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

“All of our seniors have really improved from this past spring,” said head coach Ross Brown.  “I also have been impressed with the efforts of (freshman) Brittney Covington and (sophomore) Hannah Tatlock.  This fall is going to be a great chance for us to evaluate, address and improve.”

This will be the Lady Govs first competition since a 5-2 victory against SEMO, April 13th.  Following the Skyhawk Tennis Fall Invitational, the Lady Govs will return home to host the 2014 APSU Fall Tournament.  The two-day tournament will begin at 9:30am September 19th, at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
