Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.
This weeks highlights include: New ‘Fun with Fido’ event series continues September 20th, Youth Basketball League registration, and Pre-Civil War event, “Sevier Days” .
New ‘Fun with Fido’ event series continues September 20th
The City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department, Alicia’s Complete Holistic Petcare, and Gateway Realty/A+ Property Management introduced Fun with Fido, a new, event series to promote an active lifestyle for you and your four-legged family member in June. The series will continue its season Saturday, September 20th at the Clarksville Downtown Market from 8:00am to 1:00pm on Public Square. Bring Fido for a day of shopping, crafts, give-a-ways, and more!
Businesses that promote dog-related programs, services and products are encouraged to participate as a vendor. If interested, business can apply by visiting the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Office at 102 Public Square or going online to www.cityofclarksville.com/funwithfido to download an application form. Applications must be received by September 17th, 2014.

Youth Basketball League registration is underway!
Is your child interested in playing basketball this winter? Clarksville Parks and Recreation is proud to offer a Youth Basketball League for boys and girls ages 7 to 15. The cost is $65.00 per player. Each player will receive a jersey, water bottle and award.
Registration for the league continues through October 6th. Registration is available online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. Registration is also available at the Kleeman Community Center, Crow Community Center and Burt-Cobb Community Center, as well as at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office located at 102 Public Square. The Main Office is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Registrants must bring their birth certificate for age verification if they are registering for this program for the first time.
Practices will be held at local school gymnasiums beginning November 3 and games will be held at the City’s three community centers beginning December 6th. Parents should be contacted by their coach prior to the start of games to let them know where and when their child will practice.
If you’re also interested in a leadership role on the court, Clarksville Parks and Recreation is seeking Youth League coaches. Parks and Recreation will offer coaches’ training on October 14th and 16th at 6:00pm at Freedom Point at Liberty Park. All interested coaches may contact Athletic Coordinator, Albert Casillas, at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office.
Fort Defiance to host pre-Civil War event, “Sevier Days”
The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, is excited to present “Sevier Days,” an 18th century, pre-Civil War event, Saturday, September 27th, 2014 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
This event will focus on the historical frontier and colonial period of Clarksville and will feature reenactors, flintlock musket firing demonstrations, a flint knapper making Indian arrowheads, and an authentic blacksmith operation and frontier camp life.
This event is free and open to the public.
