Austin Peay State University’s Lady Govs Tennis Return Home for APSU’s Fall Tournament

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team will kick off the home portion of its season when it hosts the 2014 APSU Fall Tournament beginning at 9:30am, Friday at the Austin Peay tennis courts.

Joining the Lady Govs for the meet will be Ohio Valley Conference rivals Belmont, UT Martin and Southeast Missouri along with Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee.

The tournament will be held using a hidden dual format. One team will sit out during each round of singles and doubles.

The Lady Govs start off their tournament 9:30am, Friday, playing singles against UT Martin, to be followed by singles matches with SEMO at 11:00am and Belmont at 2:00pm. Austin Peay will finish the tournament’s first day when it plays MTSU in doubles at 4:30pm.

Saturday, the Lady Govs start off their morning with singles matches against SEMO at 9:00am before returning to the court that afternoon with a trio of doubles matches. At 1:00pm the Lady Govs accept the challenge of Belmont followed by SEMO at 2:00pm. The Lady Govs close out the tournament with matches against UT Martin, starting at 3:00pm.

Last weekend, the Lady Govs opened their season in the Skyhawk Tennis Fall Invitational, hosted by UT Martin, going 2-3-1 in matches against North Alabama, SEMO and the host Skyhawks. The Lady Govs were led by freshman Brittney Covington, who went undefeated in her first weekend of collegiate competition.

“The Lady Govs are going to be playing a lot of tennis this weekend,” said head coach Ross Brown. “Right now we are focusing on getting more fit, and we are still a little beat up, but we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Following the APSU Fall Tournament, the Lady Govs hit the road again to take part in the Evansville Tournament, which opens Friday, September 19th.
