APSU Governors Tennis’ Manuel Montenegro wins three against North Alabama

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team hosted its only competition of the fall, Friday, facing North Alabama. Despite dropping two of three doubles matches, the Governors rebounded to win eight out of ten singles matches.

The afternoon featured one round of doubles play followed by two rounds of singles action.

In doubles, the duo of sophomore Manuel Montenegro and junior Evan Borowski defeated Jonathan Vick and Ali Murad, 8-3.

In the other doubles matches the pairing of seniors Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin fell to Brendon Millington-Herrman and Guillaume Dechoz 8-6, while senior Aleksas Tverijonas and sophomore James Mitchell dropped an 8-5 decision to Taylor Ausbon and Max Druppel.

In singles play, Montenegro completed a perfect day by defeating Ausbon 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 and Murad 6-1, 6-0.  Ristovski also went undefeated in singles play defeating Dechoz 6-2, 6-1 and Druppel 7-5, 6-1.  Tverijonas, Mitchell, Seffrin and Borowski also claimed singles victories for the Govs against the Lions.

“I was pleased with how the guys played,” said head coach Ross Brown.  “Dimitar and Manuel both played extremely solid tennis in their singles matches today and it was a good day all around.”

The Governors will enjoy a week away from competition before taking part in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.  The four-day tournament opens Thursday, October 16th, at Vanderbilt.
