Austin Peay (2-8-0, 1-1-0 OVC) bested Eastern Kentucky Friday night and gave Morehead State everything it could handle before dropping a Sunday afternoon decision against the defending OVC champions last weekend.

After struggling against a stiff early-season schedule, including losses to Southeastern Conference foes Ole Miss and Alabama as well as Lipscomb, ranked 10th in the NSCAA Southeast Region, the Lady Govs appear to have taken the lessons learned through adversity and become a better team at a perfect time.

APSU's Gina FabbroRecent contests have witnessed sophomore Gina Fabbro get untracked as well. After being held scoreless in the season’s first seven games, the Coquitlam, B.C., native has three goals in her last three contests, including two against the Colonels last weekend.

The Panthers have seen their share of struggles during the 2014 campaign. Even playing just three road contests during the season’s first month-and-a-half, Eastern Illinois finds itself 1-9-1 overall.

Despite employing Chris Reed, whose four goals rank her ninth in the OVC, EIU’s 28 goals allowed are next-to-last in the conference.

Last Time Against This Weekend’s Opponent

Austin Peay knocked off the Panthers 3-0, October 11th, 2013, in Clarksville thanks to two Tatiana Ariza goals and another tally from Joceline Quiceno. Current Lady Gov Courtney Sheppard assisted on two of the three APSU goals.

It was the fourth consecutive win for Austin Peay against the Panthers after being held winless in the first eight meetings between the two schools. All-time, Austin Peay is 4-6-2 against Eastern Illinois.

Keep An Eye On

  • Fabbro needs one goal to tie Quiceno and Natalia Ariza for eighth all-time in Austin Peay’s record-book with 11.
  • Two more saves will give junior Nikki Filippone 100 for her career. Her next save will break her tie with Brooke Abrahams (2004-07) and put her alone in fifth place all-time in career saves.
  • Both Sheppard and senior Claire Pultz need two assists to break into the top-10 all-time.
  • With just 84 shot attempts through the first 10 games of 2014, the Lady Govs are on pace for their fewest total shot attempts in a season since 2009.
