Aubrey Marsellis named APSU Athlete of the Week, October 7th 2014

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior setter Aubrey Marsellis, of the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Marsellis led the Lady Govs to a pair of three-set sweeps against Murray State and Morehead State last week, putting the Lady Govs atop the Ohio Valley Conference with a 4-0 record in conference play.

For the week, she had 68 assists (11.33 apg) and her efforts allowed Austin Peay’s attackers to post a .228 hitting percentage as a squad.

The Owasso, OK, native recorded 40 assists, three kills and three aces in Tuesday’s contest against Murray State and followed that with a 28-assist, three-kill outing against defending OVC Champion Morehead State.

Monday, Marsellis was named adidas®/OVC Setter of the Week by the conference office, her second weekly OVC honor in three weeks.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Sophomore Daniel Hamm, of the men’s cross country team, won the JSU Foothills Invitational Red Division with a personal-best 25:51.56 eight-kilometer run, leading the Govs to their first team victory since 2011.
  • Senior Jovana Karac, of the women’s tennis team, was undefeated in both singles and doubles play against North Alabama last weekend, defeating Morgan Jose 6-1, 6-0 in singles and teaming with freshman Brittney Covington for an 8-1 win against Olivera Ngouabeu and Natalia San Jose Moreno.
  • Sophomore defensive back Damien Whitfield, of the football team, tied for the team lead in tackles with a career-high 10 stops and broke up two passes in the Govs loss to Eastern Kentucky, Saturday.
