Global Trends Report ranks Tennessee as Top State for Foreign Job Investment

Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development CouncilClarksville, TN – According to the most recent Global Trends Report, Tennessee has been ranked the top state in the nation for foreign direct investment job commitments in 2013.

The annual report from the IBM Institute for Business Value measured the number of jobs created by foreign-owned companies in each state during the 2013 calendar year. Following Tennessee in the rankings were Texas, Georgia and Ohio.

According to their website, the IBM Institute for Business Value leverages IBM global industry to discover emerging trends, business innovations and success patterns.

As government leaders prepare for the next phase of business growth, knowing key facts about our state and community can help to prepare our leaders to be competitive in the global market.

“Tennessee has landed several key players in the foreign job market, including Korean-based Hankook Tire, which will take up over 460 acres in our Corporate Business Park once completed,” said Mike Evans, Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Industrial Development Board. “This type of research helps to strengthen our recruitment efforts and improves how we market our region to outside investors. Our community continues to foster positive relationships with industry based in countries such as Korea, Japan and Italy, and our plan is to expand our global reach.”

Evans also stated that with out the support of local government and elected officials in land acquisitions, much of our success might not have been possible. The community’s support of the IDB and its mission has helped to secure several foreign investments and expansions.

Clarksville-Montgomery County has seen over $4 billion in direct capital investments in the last 10 years, with at least a third of it coming from foreign-based businesses. Tennessee as a whole is home to 864 foreign-based establishments that have invested over $30 billion in capital and employ more than 116,000 Tennesseans.

The state’s top 10 countries for FDI include Japan, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and Belgium.
