Richly colored jazz paintings, bold and dynamic abstracts, cool and serene landscapes, peaceful and sometimes stormy seascapes, sunrise-sunsets, florals, and strange and odd combinations in vivid colors that just pop — these are some of the wide-ranging categories and subject matter presented by Martin in oils on canvas, acrylics on canvas, and watercolors on archival paper.

Having a varied career in Accounting, Linguistics, Music, and Financial Management, Martin was always interested in art, but only began painting seriously after he retired at age 65.

Martin is a graduate of Austin Peay State University (B.S. Business Administration), the Defense Language Institute (Chinese Mandarin) and Columbia Community College (Real Estate Management); he has also benefited from extended education at Austin Peay State University and through private instruction in water color, acrylic, and oil painting.

His career journey meandered through a stint in the Military in California and Maryland, many years in the Orient as a Chinese Mandarin linguist, many more years in the Washington, D.C. area as Operating Manager for a major corporation, and finally marriage at age 40 and permanent relocation to Tennessee as Vice President of a Financial Management company. All the while he pursued a music career with bands, in piano bars, and was a church organist for over 60 years. He is now retired and just plays bridge (a Bronze Life Master in the ACBL), paints, and enjoys life.

His work can be found in a number of public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad, as well as online at larry-martin@fineartamerica.com.

The Planters-Hilldale branch is located at 1971 Madison Street. The exhibit rotates the First Thursday of each month and is open to the public during regular bank hours: 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Thursday, and 8:30am-5:30pm, Friday. Both Martin’s original paintings, as well as smaller sized prints, will be for available for sale.
