Clarksville High Wildcats gets 59-41 win over Hendersonville

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School held Hendersonville High School to single-figure scoring in three of four quarters, November 18th at the William Workman Gymnasium, as the Wildcats came away with a 59-41 victory.

Despite playing a road game the night before in Nashville, the Wildcats (2-2) defense was dominate in the contest, only allowed the Commandos to score seven points in the first, second and fourth quarters.

Clarksville High on the other hand had more than enough offensive firepower, led by JJ Jones’ game-high 22 points.

The Commandos (0-1) would jump out of the gate quickly, scoring seven of the game’s first eight points – including five from Justin Long – to lead 7-1, after the first four minutes of play.

Long would be the lone Commando player to reach double figures, finishing the game with 19 points.

But that is when the Wildcats defense threw up a wall, holding Hendersonville scoreless over the next five minutes.

Over that stretch, the Wildcats offense would put together a 15-0 run – including six points from Jones – to go up 16-7, with 7:17 left in the first half.

Hendersonville would finally score at the 5:24 mark of the second quarter, on one-of-two free throws by Austin Brown, but the Commandos wouldn’t make a field goal again until the final minute of the first half – ending a stretch of 11:09 between field goals.

While Hendersonville struggled to score points the Wildcats offense flourished behind the play of Jones and Teal Young, as the pair combined for 15 points in the second quarter (eight for Jones, seven for Young) with Clarksville High extending its lead out to 20 points at intermission, 34-14.

Young finished the game with 11 points.

As the second half started, Clarksville High would push its lead out to its largest advantage of the contest, 22 points at 41-19, following a three-point play by Jones at the 4:59 mark of the third quarter.

Hendersonville then put together its best scoring run since the opening four minutes of the game by scoring 10 straight points – over a span of 2:26 – to get back to within 12 points, 41-29.

Clarksville High would see Hendersonville get as close as nine points, 45-36, in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as the Commandos would get the rest of the way.

Much like it did in the first two quarters of the contest, the Wildcats defense would shut down the Commandos offense over the final seven minutes of the game, while scoring 14 points themselves to come away with the 59-41 victory.

Clarksville High returns to action, November 21st, with a 7:30pm road contest at Station Camp High School.
