Las Vegas, NV – A streak will end for either Austin Peay State University or Brown when the two meet, 1:00pm, CT, Thanksgiving Day, in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena.
The Governors enter the Vegas part of the invitational 0-2 in tourney prelim games as part of a three-game losing streak.
For the Governors to snap their early losing streak they must discover some form of offensive consistency.
In five games this season they have failed to shoot more than 45 percent, let alone 50 percent in a single game. In APSU’s disappointing 61-57 loss to Indiana State, Monday, the Governors shot a season-low 22 of 63 (34.9 percent).
As a result it was a fourth straight game APSU failed to score 70 points. The Govs, in fact, saw only senior guard Ed Dyson (15 points) score in double figures against Indiana State.
The inside duo of Chris Horton and Chris Freeman scored only eight points apiece—prior to the Illinois game they were averaging more than 33 points per outing.
After finishing 15-14 in 2013-14 and fifth (7-7) in the Ivy League standings, Brown returns this season four starters and the sixth man from that team. That sixth man, sophomore forward Leland King, who was the Bears’ second-leading scorer (9.6 ppg) a year ago, is their leading scorer (16.6 ppg) so far this season while also pulling down 7.8 rebounds per outing as a starter.
Fellow forward Cedric Kuakumensah is averaging 10.4 points while guard Tavon Blackmon comes in 8.7 points per outing.
This will be the first time Austin Peay and Brown have met. It also is only the second time in Govs history they have faced an Ivy League school on the hardwood. The previous meeting saw the Govs beat Columbia, 95-62, in 1989 Acme Boot Showdown first-round play in Clarksville Tennessee.

What Went Right
After falling behing 14-3, the Governors came to gain a tie by halftime at 25-25.
The Governors held Indiana State to 39 percent (16 of 41) shooting.
Ed Dyson scored a season-high 15 points while also dishing out three assists in 39 minutes.
Chris Horton grabbed 11 rebounds, the 28th time in his career he has reached double-figure rebounds.
The Governors forced Indiana State in 18 turnovers, eight of them leading to steals.
What Went Wrong
The Govs shot a season-low 34.9 percent (22 of 63) from the floor against the Sycamores.
The Govs went just 3-of-11 from the floor over the final 5:56 against Indiana State and watched a five-point lead evaporate.
The Govs backcourt combined to 14 of 46 (30 percent) from the floor against Indiana State.
The Govs had just one player, Ed Dyson, break into double figures against Indiana State.
The Govs bench went a combined 4-of-15 from the floor.
One of the nation’s least fouling teams a year ago, the Govs committed 25 fouls against Indiana State.
The Govs inside duo of Chris Horton and Chris Freeman, who were averaging better than 33 points per game before the trip north, scored eight points apiece against Indiana State, shooting a combined 15 shots from the floor.
After shooting better than 70 percent from the free-throw line in the previous three games, APSU was limited to just 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) against Indiana State.
Junior guard Khalil Davis struggled to a 2-of-11 shooting performance against Indiana State a game after recording 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting against Illinois.

The Series
This is the first meeting between Brown, a member of the Ivy League, and Austin Peay, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. This is just the second time APSU has played an Ivy League program. The previous meeting saw the Govs beat Columbia, 95-62, in 1989 Acme Boot Showdown first-round play in Clarksville.
It would make the Govs 2-4 in 2014…the Govs would go to 2-4 in November…the Govs would go to 1-0 in neutral site contests…they could go to 1-2 in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational…they would go to 1-0 against Brown…it would make APSU 2-0 against Ivy League schools…it would make Dave Loos 1-0 against Brown…it would give Loos a 1-0 record against Brown coach Mike Martin…it would be Dave Loos’ 467th career victory.
What A Loss Would Mean
The Govs drop to 1-5 in 2014…the would fall to 0-3 in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational…they would go to 1-5 in November…it would be the Govs fourth straight defeat…Loos would drop to 466-409 overall and 384-356 as the Governors head coach.
Governors Pardons
The Governors used much of Wednesday in route to Vegas. The team flew out of Indianapolis and arrived in Las Vegas, 8:30pm.
In the last two games against Illinois and Indiana State, preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection Chris Horton has shot just 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from the floor.
However, Horton is not alone in his offensive struggles. Only Ed Dyson (50 percent/10 of 20) is the only Gov shooting better than 50 percent from the floor in this two games.
In the last two games the Govs are shooting only 33.3 percent (9 of 27) from three-point range and 38.7 (46 of 119) percent overall.
