After the ribbon cutting, Deb Haines-Kulick, who led the green effort for CAR, provided the visitors with a tour of the facility.

The Clarksville Association of Realtor building was built with energy savings in mind. The building is outfitted with 20 solar panels that greatly reduce energy bills, natural lighting is available throughout the building and energy efficient lighting was installed throughout the building.

Haines-Kulick shared, “Even though our building was designed for uniqueness and savings we continue to look for opportunities to conserve. One of our greatest savings comes from doing our classes online and using online training manuals. This saves paper and print costs not to mention the time it saves staff in copying and shredding. We have also shared our green practices with our members and have encouraged them to bring in their white paper for shredding.”

Additional activities CAR does to save is regularly maintain their HVAC units, ensure lights are off in unused rooms, adjust thermostat settings when the building is unoccupied, they recycle paper, plastic, aluminum and cardboard, consolidate trips to once per month for supplies.

Mayor Durrett thanked the CAR associates for their work. “We appreciate the time and effort you have put into the CMC Green Certification process and the work that you continue to do.”

Harpel also thanked CAR on behalf of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and expressed how impressed he was that they were working to spread the message of conservation to the hundreds of real estate agents that CAR represents.

The Clarksville Association of Realtors is a resource for all local real estate agents and brokers. CAR provides training, resource material, workshops and other support for real estate professionals and those aspiring to enter the field of real estate. The address is 115 Center Pointe Drive 931.552.3567. For additional info about the work done through CAR visit www.clarksvilleassociationofrealtors.com
