Following the parade, the official Montgomery County Christmas tree was lit during a short ceremony on the courthouse lawn.
“First of all I would like to say on behalf of Montgomery County Government and the County commissioners, Merry Christmas to each and every one of you, and I hope you have a blessed new year.” Said Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett in his remarks before lighting the County’s Christmas tree. “And I ask each of you during this holiday season just to remember our men and women who are serving our country. So many of them are not here to be with their families, and I just ask you to say a prayer for them!”
Durrett them began counting down from 10 and when he reached zero the tree lit up.
He was then joined by Santa Claus who spent some time visiting with area children.
