Rossview Lady Hawks use size advantage to soar past Stewart County Lady Rebels 53-37

Rossview High School HawksServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – Making the most of its superior height advantage, Rossview High School girls basketball team pulled away in the middle two quarters, Monday, December 8th, versus Stewart County High School in coming away with a 53-37 victory.

Holding a three-point advantage after one quarter, Rossview (6-1) opened the second period by pounding the ball inside time and time again against the smaller Lady Rebels post player in scoring 10 straight points – including six from Mickey Head to go up by 13 point, 25-12, with 4:33 left in the first half.

Head would lead Rossview with 13 points.

Stewart County (4-5) would only score six points in the second quarter – both coming on three-point field goals by Casey Dial – including the final bucket of the first half to cut the Rossview lead to nine points, 27-18.

Dial would lead all scorers with 14 points – the only Lady Rebel to reach double figures against the Lady Hawks.

As the second half started, Rossview would go back to what had gotten them the lead by pounding the ball inside, with Head, Jemiah Harrison and Haylee Croom all picking up field goals over the first 4:30 of the period to help build the Lady Hawks out to its largest margin of the night up to that point – 18 points – at 30-22, with 3:30 left in the quarter.

Harrison and Croom would both finish in double figures, with Harrison scoring 12 and Croom 10.

Stewart County would hold Rossview off the scoreboard for the final three and a half minutes to end the third quarter, but the Lady Rebels weren’t able to do much in cutting into the Lady Hawks lead, scoring only three points, and trailing Rossview 40-25 with one quarter left to play.

The final period would see the Lady Hawks continue to work the ball inside against the Lady Rebels, scoring nine of the first 10 points of the quarter, to build its biggest lead of the game – 23 points – 49-26 with 3:31 left in the game.

Both teams would empty their respective benches for the final three minutes, with Stewart County outscoring the Lady Hawks 11-4 to make the final margin 16 points, 53-37.

In the first quarter, Rossview would jump out to a 8-3 lead before Stewart County was able to get its offense untracked and tying the Lady Hawks 8-8.

Rossview would take the lead for the final time, 9-8, on a free throw by Head with 3:13 left in the first quarter and building that out to a three-point lead after the first eight minutes of play, 15-12.

Rossview returns to District 10-AAA play December 9th, as they play host to Springfield High School for a 6:00pm contest.
