Rossview High School HawksServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – A 7-0 run early in the third quarter by Rossview High School proved to be the different, Monday, December 8th, as the Hawks defeated the Stewart County High School Rebels, 44-39.

Rossview (5-3) was trailing Stewart County by two points, 26-24, following a free throw from the Rebels Rye Nolen, but Javon Vaughn would spark a 7-0 by scoring five straight points in a span of 35 seconds; with Cannon Campbell also adding a bucket to cap the run as give the Hawks a 31-26 lead.

Vaughn would finish the game with 10 points, while Nolen scored 10 points for the Rebels.

Stewart County (4-5) would get as close as one point, 33-32, with one minute left to play in the third quarter, but missing three-of-four free throws allowed the Hawks to retain their lead.

Rossview would close the period with Campbell hitting one-of-two free throws and Clayton Spence making a bucket right at the buzzer to give the Hawks a 36-32 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

A bucket by Vaughn, to open the fourth quarter, would give the Hawks their biggest lead of the game, at six points, 38-32, with 6:30 left in the game.

Stewart County would chip away at the Rossview lead, over the next 5:30, as the Rebels cut the Hawks lead down to just two points, 41-39, following two free throws by Austin Byrd with 58.9 seconds left in regulation.

Byrd led Stewart County with 12 points.

But that would be as close as the Rebels would get the rest of the way, with Rossview hitting three of six free throw attempts over the final 47.5 seconds to close out the games scoring and the five-point victory.

In the first half, the game looked like it was going to be a high-scoring shootout between the two teams, as they combined to hit seven 3s in the period; while trading the lead back-and-fourth five times and recording five ties – including the score at the end of the first eight minutes of play, 19-19.

While the first quarter was a score-fest the second quarter proved to be anything but, with Rossview only hitting one field goal in the period – a three by Nolen with 3:27 left – and two free throws by Logan Miller.

Stewart County wasn’t much better in the quarter, hitting only two field goals, but both were 3s, to give the Rebels a 25-24 advantage heading into intermission.

Rossview returns to District 10-AAA play December 9th, as they play host to Springfield High School for a 7:30pm contest.
