Tennessee State Representative Curtis Johnson Reelected to Key Leadership Position by Peers in Nashville

 

State of TennesseeNashville, TN – Earlier today, Tennessee State Representative Curtis Johnson (R–Clarksville) was reelected by his peers to serve as their nominee for Speaker Pro Tempore during a formal meeting of the House Republican Caucus to elect the next round of leaders in Nashville.

The meeting, which occurs every two years, is attended by all Republican members of the House of Representatives. Currently, Republicans hold 73 of the 99 seats in the House.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – One of the greatest golfers in the Governors illustrious history plus a former football standout who returned to his alma mater to help coach the program to its only Ohio Valley Conference title have been selected to Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

In addition, a former superb basketball player from Austin Peay’s small college era was selected to the Hall of Fame as part of it Honors category.

Grant Leaver, a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree who won five individual championships and played in the 2008 NCAA East Regional; Ed Bunio, a two-way player who was an All-OVC offensive tackle for the 1964 8-1-1 club and later was the architect for 1977 Governors’ championship defense, have been elected to APSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Bob Bradley, who was a key member of two College Division NCAA teams in 1960-61, was chosen as this year’s honors inductee.

Tennessee reduces Long Term General Obligation Debt by Millions

 

Tennessee Comptroller of the TreasuryNashville, TN – The State of Tennessee continues a positive trend. Tennessee’s long-term general obligation debt has decreased by more than $175 million since June 30th, 2012.

The Comptroller’s Office has just released the State of Tennessee Indebtedness Report, documenting the state’s solid credit ratings and debt management record.

Troops fight Ebola through Education and Training

United States Africa CommandMonrovia, Liberia – A 34-year-old man enters an Ebola treatment unit speaking another language. He looks cold, sickly and frustrated.

An ETU volunteer is screening a woman for the Ebola Virus Disease and her test comes back positive. She is admitted into the ETU; however, she refuses to go with the clinicians because she has two small children waiting outside. She claims she is their only caretaker.

These are the types of scenarios happening in ETUs, and these scenarios are what ETU health care workers are prepared for during the five-day Ebola Treatment Unit Course led by the U.S. military, Joint Forces Command – United Assistance, at the National Police Training Academy in Monrovia, Liberia.

Clarksville Gas and Water reports Mary Beth Lane Area Water Outage

Clarksville Gas and Water Department - CGWClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water construction crews are continuing water main repair work today that began on Tuesday on Mary Beth Lane. Water service will be turned off on Mary Beth Lane, Cal Court, Garrettsburg Road and Evans Road to allow crews to finish the repair.

Area residents may also experience low water pressure during the work.

The repair is anticipated to be finished and water service restored approximately 11:00am.
