101st Sustainment Brigade soldiers train Liberians to operate Forklifts

United States Africa CommandMonrovia Liberia – Joint Forces Command – United Assistance service members train non-government organizations, Liberians on the forklift as part of Operation United Assistance.

Sgt. Thomas Horton, forklift instructor, 372nd Inward Cargo Transfer Company, 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division explains, “Our basic aim here is to train the trainer. We’re going to shoot for sustainability as far as operations go. That way all we have to do is ferry in supplies and the Liberians do the rest.”

They train Liberians on how not only to operated forklifts but to also certify new forklift operators.

Military units are currently transitioning responsibility over to non-government organizations.

Operation United Assistance is a Department of Defense operation in Liberia to provide logistics, training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in western Africa.
