Clarksville, TN – The celebrated Dallas Brass will present its American Tableau concert in Clarksville this Tuesday, January 20th at 7:30pm in the George and Sharon Mabry Concert Hall on the campus of Austin Peay State University in the Music/Mass Communication building at Eighth and Marion Streets.“
A Dallas Brass concert is intended for the entire family. Our ideal audience has a range in ages from five to 95. Our goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music, while showing our audience how much we enjoy what we do.” says Michael Levine, artistic director and founder. This is part of the Clarksville Community Concert Association series.
They have performed with symphony orchestras nationwide, in major venues including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and toured Europe and Asia. Their repertoire embraces classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music.
Area high school band students from three counties will work with the Dallas Brass during a clinic that afternoon and perform one selection on the concert. Rossview High School (Brock Cobb, Band Director), Houston County (Matt Whitt, Band Director) and Stewart County High School (Philip Bossenberger, Music Director) are looking forward to this extraordinary opportunity for their students to perform on this professional concert. The Dallas Brass has invited APSU brass faculty Robert Waugh, trumpet; Kristen Sienkiewicz, French horn; Susan K. Smith, trombone; Christopher Vivio, tuba and guest Fred Sienkiewicz, trumpet to play on the program in a double quintet.
On Monday, Austin Peay State University brass students will benefit from the expertise of the Dallas Brass and receive feedback in a master class setting. Tuba player Noah Taggart, a senior music education major, said, “I heard them when I was in high school. They are definitely one of the groups that made me want to continue in music. It is amazing to now have the opportunity to play for them and get their insight.” Noah’s professor Christopher Vivio notes that the ensemble has been around for many years and maintains a reputation as top-notch performers and teachers.
The Dallas Brass residency is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission, APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, and the APSU Hispanic Cultural Center.
