Austin Peay State University Women’s Softball picked to finish ninth in OVC Preseason Poll

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team has been picked to finish in a tie for ninth place in the pre-season Ohio Valley Conference poll, as released by the OVC home office.

The Lady Govs, who finished ninth in the final conference standings last season with an overall record of 20-32 and 8-18 in conference play, received 73 points in voting from the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors to tie with Belmont.

Defending OVC Tournament champion SIUE was selected to win the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference softball crown after picking up 18 of the 24 first-place votes and 238 total points, with Jacksonville State (215 points) picked to finish second and Eastern Kentucky (191 points) predicted to finish third.

Rounding out the poll is Murray State to place fourth with 185 points, UT Martin fifth with 156 points, Tennessee Tech sixth (142), Eastern Illinois seventh (141), Morehead State eighth (88), Southeast Missouri 11th (48) and Tennessee State 12th (34) complete the poll.

Austin Peay begins its 2015 regular-season schedule on February 6th at the Mississippi State Bulldog Kickoff Classic, while OVC play starts on March 14th.

The 2015 OVC Softball Championship will feature the top eight teams, with the three-day event taking place on May 6-9 on the campus of the regular-season champion.
